IBPS PO Exam : The general exam for Probationary Officers (PO) and Management Trainees (MT) is known as Common Written Examination or CWE, which is a common test for around more than 22 plus (PSU) Public Sector Banks/Organisations by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. Those candidates who qualify in preliminary exam will be eligible for main exam. Eligibility Criteria for IBPS PO Exam
The eligibility criteria as per IBPS for the Bank PO and Management Trainee roles are as follows:
A. Educational Qualification: Candidates, intending to apply for CWE PO/MT should ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria specified by IBPS in its advertisement: - A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Govt. Of India or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.
B. Nationality / Citizenship:
A candidate must be either:
(i) a Citizen of India or
(ii) a subject of Nepal or
(iii) a subject of Bhutan or
(iv) A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the Intention of permanently settling in India or
(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
C. Age Criteria: Participating candidates age should be between 20 years to 30 years. There is relaxation on age for reserved categories.
IBPS PO Selection Process
The selection process for the IBPS Bank PO and Management Trainee roles includes an online Preliminary Common Written Examination for all eligible candidates & on the basis of performance, short listed candidates will for called to participate in Main Examination, IBPS scores are accepted by all participating banks. After a candidate is short listed in the Main Examination, there will be a personal interview conducted by the Participating Organisations & co-ordinated by the Nodal Bank. Each bank has its own selection process of interview. Based on the marks obtained in the in the Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and the interview process, score card will be issued to successful candidates. Banks will then recruit candidates for their state/UT vacancies as per the reservation rules of Central/State Government.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern:
A candidate’s marks in the IBPS PO Mains Exam should be sufficiently high to be eligible for the Final Section.
Note: There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
Note: The above tests except the Test of English Language will be available bilingually, i.e. English and Hindi.
Penalty for Wrong Answers:- There will be penalty for wrong answers marked in the Objective Tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate one fourth or 0.25 of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty to arrive at corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e. no answer is marked by the candidate; there will be no penalty for that question.
IBPS PO Examination Procedure
The procedure of examination begins with a registration followed by an online test for Preliminary & Main Examinations followed by Interview Process. The online written examination usually consists of 5 sections that comprises of English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness (With special focus on Banking Industry) and Computer Knowledge. The duration of the exam is 1 hour and has 100 objective questions of 1 mark each for Preliminary Exam & the duration of the exam is 2 hour 20 minutes and has 200 objective questions of 1 mark each for Main Exam. In The Main Exam the Reasoning and the Quantitative Aptitude have maximum marks of 50, English Language and General Awareness have the maximum marks of 40 each, and Computer Knowledge has maximum marks of 20.
Detailed Syllabus for IBPS PO
The detailed Syllabus of the different sections is as follows:
General Awareness: Questions pertaining to banking, culture, geography, politics, history, economics, science, constitution, sports, etc. In addition, one should be abreast about the Current Affairs, and the recent developments and activities in the Banking sector.
English Language: Comprehension passage Q&A, Fill in the blanks, spotting grammatical errors, Para jumbles, Sentence completion, Synonyms and Antonyms, formation of words. Comprehension passage includes detection of themes, derivation of conclusions, completion of passage etc.
Quantitative Aptitude: Problems on Time & Work, Average, Roots, Ratio, Profit &loss, Percentage, Time and Distance, etc. Also there is Arithmetic & Data Interpretation that includes bar graphs, pie-charts, line graphs & tabulation. Other problems include height & distances, arithmetic quotient, logarithms, volume & surface area, simple & compound interest, permutation & combination, and probability
Reasoning: Reasoning can be verbal and non-verbal. Verbal includes classification, Classification figural series, analogy, decision making, Space Orientation, word formation, Critical Thinking series, Drawing inferences, decoding & coding, blood relation, symbol & notation, Semantic Series, statement & conclusion, sitting arrangement and problem solving, series completion and, finding any missing figure.
Computer Knowledge, Computer Awareness: Knowledge of operating systems, Windows and Internet, MS Office suite and EFT systems, computer architecture basics, e-commerce knowledge, and basic computer computations. Also, one should be prepared about the current affairs on Computer area.
